google maps: ask for bike directions

I learned in this article from the SF Examiner, (Cyclists ask Google for directions), that there’s a petition for people to ask for “bike there” directions on Google Maps!  Such a feature would make cycling an even more Everyday Sustainable form of transportation.

You can read and sign the petition here, and if you want to learn more, there’s even a website dedicated to this movement.  http://googlemapsbikethere.org/

Even though I have cycled from San Francisco to Los Angeles, I have public declared that I’m a big scaredy-cat when it comes to riding in San Francisco.  I’ve signed the petition nonetheless, because it’s important to increase information for safe cycling.

New York City already has this great resource: Ride The City safe bike routes made easy.
